Durham Store Manager Position

Website Golden Fig Books

We are seeking a smart, enthusiastic manager who loves books and wants to develop and grow alongside us. Bookselling requires a wide range of skills and the ability to constantly adapt to unique situations. This is especially true at Golden Fig where employees will be expected to manage the space alone at times. The Manager position will be full-time (35 or more hours per week) and will likely take 3 or 4 weeks of training so we’re hoping to make a hire as soon as we find an exciting candidate. Because of this shortened timeframe we will not be able to respond to all applicants who send in their materials.

Responsibilities:

Lead the store in daily operations

Build and maintain positive relationships with our community and booksellers

Create a positive work environment while directing the training of, and providing feedback to, fellow booksellers

Manage inventory of supplies, used/new books, sidelines and place orders with distributors

Proactively brainstorm new systems/outreach/events/marketing to expand store recognition and traffic and streamline processes

Ability to take responsibility when things go awry and willingness to make judgment calls when required

Ensure store and booksellers remain true to the core values of Golden Fig

As a store manager you are the store’s leader in all aspects – inventory, operations, merchandising, customer service, etc.

Qualifications:

Previous experience in either bookselling or management required

Is punctual, organized, and has excellent attention to detail

Has great interpersonal and customer service skills as well as the ability to exercise sound judgment in high-stress, multitasking situations

Strong delegation, follow up, and management skills

Has flexible availability to work nights and/or weekends

Is confident in recommending books and is knowledgeable across multiple genres

Is adaptable with an ability to problem-solve and fill needs as they occur throughout the course of a workday

Is capable of bearing a physically demanding job (able to lift boxes of books up to 50 lbs, shelve books, move and adjust displays, climb a ladder, be on your feet for most of the day, etc.)

Loves reading, physical books, and independent bookstores

Pay starts at $22/hr after a training period of 2-4 weeks at $17/hr
